FOC Andrew says...
Andrew Carpenter has been Llanview's conscience since he first appeared, like a vision, in St. James' cemetary to offer solace to the beautiful Megan Gordon Harris, grieving for her presumed dead sister Sarah and pining for her missing groom, Jake. How would the lovely, tragic newlywed have made it through the difficult days that lay ahead without the spiritual sustenance the good reverand provided? This forbidden but devoted love nearly cost him his collar and also his life. Could there be anything more heart-wrenching than the near-dying-breath acknowledgement of Megan's reciprocated love for Andrew...an acknowledgement that tore at the very depth of his soul? Could there be a task more agonizing than bravely and calmly assisting the woman you love in making her own funeral plans? This is the man of courage and strength and integrity that Andrew Carpenter has come to be known as.

We watched over the years as Andrew fought local homophobes; lead the fight to establish the community center for Llanview's young and poor; proudly honored the memory of his gay brother taken by AIDS; rebuilt the shattered relationship with his stubborn father; committed himself to helping the smitten and deeply-troubled Marty Sayebrook, with whom he later forged a deep and lasting bond that sustained her through her recovery from gang rape and her emergence as a whole and healed character capable of great good; touched our souls with the mellow sounds of his saxophone; and counseled a raven-haired beauty who found herself married to an unwitting bigamist, only to fall deeply and passionately in love himself with the enchanting Cassie, tossed aside for her rival and former best friend.

Andrew...man of faith, man of conscience, man of conviction, man of passionate principle and deep, earthly longing...cerebral, soulful, spititual, forgiving, compassionate, warmly humorous....Andrew, devoted father, husband, friend, shepherd of his flock...the consumate Christian. Andrew, if all Christians were like you, the Christian church would have me. Perhaps it is best you leave us now, heartbreaking though it is to those who have loved you for so long. I think maybe you are too good for this world...the world of Llanview, at any rate.

FOC Carlo says...
That polished pate. The Countess Mara striped shirts and ties. The slight beading of perspiration on his expressive upper lip. Carlo Hesser is Llanview's once-and-future resident snake in the grass, and oh, how I miss him. Not the fake Carlo most recently foisted upon us (and I don't mean Mortimer, not my FAC but pretty darn wonderful himself). I miss Carlo the strong, Carlo the man who longed for Renee but who played doctor with Alex. Carlo who plotted to destroy other families but yearned to recreate his own. Carlo who knew how to carry his obsessions to the ultimate, yet who always made sure there was a trap door nearby, just in case. Cruise on, Carlo, but come back....eventually.

FOC Colin MacIver says...
Now I don't really *like* Colin....I mean, how could I? But there's no category for favorite creepy characters or favorite psychopaths, LOL! If there was, that would certainly be more fitting than plain FOC, which implies a sense of affection.

I have to admit to being mesmerized by him. I find him a most chilling psycho, w/ just this edge of an animal kind of sexiness to him...a little predatory, making him all the more menacing, yet impossible not to keep an eye on.

I don't want to ask for FOC Troy MacIver because my gut tells me Troy is an imposter and is really Colin. Mostly, though, I don't know enough about Troy to care much. But if this really is Colin back from the dead, well then that's just too intriguing to pass up. It really does elevate him to official status as vampire. And I think he's a very cool, if extremely ghoulish, ghost/nightmare vision. How can I pass up such properties, I ask? I have to pay proper homage to such a fiend...you know?

FOC David Renaldi says...
David may have started out a "bad guy," but he has come to mean so much more. His talent as a pianist shows a creative and dramatic side which fit in well with his spy persona. It wasn't until his return with ALS that we saw the strength and grace that is part of David Renaldi. His courage under adverse circumstances, his ability to find inspiration in his grandson offer hope. His dedication to family in both Cassie and Dorian offered a unity that is seldom seen when the two break up.

FOC Mme. Delphina says...
Who wants to MMMBop?
Top ten reasons why Madame Delphina should be your FOC:

10. She does a good enough Mel that we almost feel we have him back.
9. She's a snazzy dresser.
8. She's the perfect comic foil for the overly-serious Mrs. Lord-Hayes.
7. She's one of the few people who can scare Sophia.
6. She's not a size 3.
5. She has integrity enough to refuse RJ's bribe money.
4. Her visions are just vague enough to ensure that Dorian will do something really, really stupid, providing lots of whimsical fun for us viewers at home.
3. She does not have the same hairdresser who makes Nora, Lindsay, Viki, and Tea look like helmet-heads. Instead, she has a very bad hairstyle which is uniquely her own.
2. She's a good kisser.

And the #1 reason Madame Delphina should be your FOC:

1. "I've got that Hanson song running through my head!"

FOC Dorian says...
Ah, Dorian...that daring, devious, dangerous, and delicious diva we both detest and delight in simultaneously! Surely no other OLTL character has as much style, elan, and zest for life as our dear Dorian. She's truly an enigma. Just when we think she has no heart, she shows us a big one, for her "girls," for her friends, even for her arch enemy, Viki. Just when we think she'll never find true love, she meets her match, Mel Hayes -- what a glorious pair! (Even if it was for just a brief moment in time...) Just when we think she's a goner, she goes to hell and back with renewed chutzpa and courage. Somehow she always comes out on top, and she's definitely tops in my book! She's one classy dame!

FOC Judge Fitzwater says...
For those of you whose new or occasional viewing habits may have you scratching your head and saying, "Who?" let me tell you a bit about the judge. We first met her as one of OLTL excellent short-term casts, something the show does very well. Whenever there is a trial, we are treated to no indifferent actor but usually a theater-trained, eminent character actor. Such was Fitzie. She soon emerged, after that first trial, as a thorn in the side of Nora Hanen Gannon Buchanan, being tough but fair on her and tough but tender when least expected. Fitzie not only censured and frustrated Nora, she celebrated her wedding to Bo and has danced with the Commish on occasion. Fitzie is strict but sees a joke, by-the-book yet feminine, and when the robe can be put aside, capable of boogie-ing with the best. I love her.

FOC Gabrielle says...
One of only two women who could keep Max in line, Gabbie was a contradiction in terms. The "bad girl" could keep the people of Llanview constantly in doubt. Even when she was "bad" she was good because she never hurt the people she loved.

FOC Jacara says...
If you blinked, you missed her. Feisty and full-throated, record mogul/blues singer Jacara had a lot wrong with her -- ill-conceived writing, mostly -- but so much that was good. More than anything, I loved her for finally getting RJ -- gorgeous, dangerous RJ, who inexplicably hadn't had a date in six years -- into the sack. And into his own apartment. But I loved her too for being the perfect pal to Wendy, Club Indigo's resident mixologist/transsexual. Jacara seemed to flounder and die when TPTB couldn't decide whether she was or was not involved with two Gannon brothers for the price of one, but while she was around, she added some spice, brown sugar and soul to the Llanview scene.

FOC Joey says...
Is it the bushy 'brows? They way he dances with a broom? His unwavering sense of loyalty to his family? The love he has for Kelly? Or maybe it's the way he can barge into a hostage situation and not get himself killed? Well whatever it is there's something special about that Buke called Joey.

FOB Llanview U says...
I like Llanview University, partially, because I am also a teacher in real life. Llanview was the place where I fell hard for that certain Irish poet who, as long as he was in the classroom, was irresistible. If those hallowed halls could speak, they would be screaming that they, sadly, are only used for a place where the teens and early 20s can meet. A sad comment on the educational system, however, where drahhhhma and intrigue is more important than education. Heaven forbid, should anyone actually learn anything.

FOC Matthew says...
I know he's just a baby, but he is the future. He will be causing trouble (and has) since the day he was concepted. I think he will have a lot of potential in the years to come, I can't wait to watch him grow up and wreak havoc for both the Rappaports and Buchannans.

FOC Mitch says...
The greatest criminal in Llanview's history, Mitch Lawrence kept the residents guessing. Whether trying to get Viki's money through Tina to acting as an "evanglist"/cult head, he was the one you loved to hate. It was sad when Dorian killed him because I thought we had lost his "evilness" for good. Yet, he returned to haunt Viki on her trip to heaven.

FOC Nigel says...
Nigel Smythe is just caustic enough to be an effective foil for Asa. He has the perfect "Oh, the things I do for my job" demeanor which helps make a curmudgeon like Asa seem more humorous and real. My favorite Nigel moment has to be when "crazy" Asa decided that Nigel was his son. The mental picture of Nigel in the too-small cowboy hat still makes me giggle.

FOC RJ says...
One of the most unconventional and unpredictable characters Llanview has ever known, with his full mane of dreadlocks cascading down his back and over his shoulders, RJ Gannon has intrigued us since he first set foot on the scene several years ago. Love him or hate him, he's impossible to ignore, impossible to feel neutral about.

With one foot in the criminal underworld and the other in reformed citizen world, he seems at any moment to step either way...and has done both many times since we met him. His constant straddling of these two identities epitomizes the perpetual inner struggle of RJ Gannon himself, making him one of the most complex characters of Daytime.

He's surprised us with his tenderness and compassion at unexpected times. We've been stirred (some of us anyway) by those sharply focused midnight eyes and exotic smile that emote an intense passion and sensuality surging beneath the surface, ready to erupt in hot lava in an instant. We behold him now on the brink of finding lasting love and happiness, and are heartbreakingly aware of the sincerity behind his determination to make good his life and be worthy of this love...knowing the uphill battle he faces, with its unlikelihood of triumph. Like RJ himself, we are torn between rooting for his redemption and terrified of the destruction such a fate would mean for the complex soul we know as RJ Gannon.

FOC Rae says...
I chose Rae because I like her style, everything about her says "let me know your business, or else I'll come to my own conclusion." She makes me laugh, she makes others laugh. I also appreciate the way she's made herself at home with everyone and become a part of their lives, whether they want her to or not. She's just a wonderful character.

FOC Renee says...
What can I say about this former "madam" except courage. That's what it takes to marry Asa Buchanan twice. In addition, Renee is one savvy business lady. Running the Palace is a full-time job. My guess at present is that she has the adoption papers and knows who her real son is. Watching this play out will be intriguing to say the least. Her friendship over the years has helped Viki and Nora in particular through bad times. She is "grandmother" to everyone -- especially Max's children.

FOC Roseanne says...
I have always been interested by her character. I think her love and devotion to Cristian is great and they belong together. I think Erika Paige is one of the most gorgeous women on daytime. Roseanne is probably one of the best underused characters on OLTL, and there is sooooooo much they can do with her. Let's let TPTB know we want more Roseanne!

FOC Tina says...
Tina is the reason I started watching OLTL in the summer of 1988. I came home early from a vacation and switched on the TV, and there she was. She had just attended the funeral of Patrick London, the Faux Bo, and wound up talking with Ursula Blackwell (Jill Larson, now AMC's Opal). Tina was pregnant by the Faux Bo, and Ursula, who was crazed with love for Patrick, lured her to her lighthouse. She wanted to raise Patrick's baby. Tina couldn't get off the island. The only other person on the island where the lighthouse was was Ursula's father (played by South Africa's Athol Fugard), who was in a wheelchair.

Anyway, at one point, Tina spilled Patrick's ashes on the floor and Ursula was furious with her and told her to clean them up. While Ursula was out of the room, Tina literally swept Patrick's ashes under a rug, and replaced them with ashes from the fireplace, and said, "No one will ever know the difference."

Well, that was just too funny, and I had to keep watching. This was also around the time that Viki was just beginning to remember/discover that she'd been pregnant with Megan, and Gabrielle was an attraction also.

FOC Todd says...
Todd Manning is a character who has fascinated me for so long. He's a tortured soul, and certainly no one I'd want to be alone with in a dark alley (or a dark frat house). But thanks to Roger Howarth's brilliant portrayal, Todd has been a character I've watched consistently since he first appeared on the show.

He's a convicted rapist who has spent a lifetime building walls around himself (and finding out that letting anyone inside those walls generally ends up causing him pain). He's cynical and sarcastic and blunt and not afraid of cutting someone to ribbons for personal gain. While these are not qualities I have myself, and certainly not qualities I'd want in an acquaintance (let alone a friend), they make for riveting storytelling.

There's no character on any canvas currently who can match Todd in complexity. The character of Todd started out with the designation "Frat Boy 1" or somesuch, so maybe TPTB will, one day, stumble on another day player to fill the void. Until then, Todd Manning remains one of the more welcome accidents of daytime drama.

FOC Viki says...
As the longest continuing character on the show, Viki has become the barometer for acceptance, respect, and responsibility. While commiting crimes, she accepts that she isn't perfect. With the incorporation of Niki, Tori, Tommy, Princess, Jean, and Victor, she accepts that there are many different aspects to her personality. She gets along with all areas of the community (witness her dancing with Eddie) and serves as the head of the family paper thus representing integrity.
